A few years back, I got a call from my brother, a dentist in Florida. He was concerned that his new website just wasn’t getting the amount of traffic he expected and asked if I had any ideas about how to attract new clients. At the time I was Content Strategist and Editorial Director of an entertainment company. We used content - articles, blogs, podcasts, and celeb videos as “bait” to attract 10 million visitors a month to our websites: Broadway.com, Hollywood.com, and MovieTickets.com.
I wanted to help my brother, so I started to think about the role content might play in attracting new clients – with a special focus on communicating what clients look for when choosing a professional.
- Was it something more than just credentials and experience?
- Was it something they said or how they said it?
- Could it be taught to other professionals?
- What would be the best way to convey “that certain quality” on the Internet?
